Cliff Tragedy in Bryce Canyon—Cat Survives Deadly Fall
A hiking trip through Utah's Bryce Canyon turned fatal for a Florida couple, while their cat survived against all odds. The trio set out on an adventure but only one returned alive.
Matthew Nannen and Bailee Crane were found dead on April 29 at the base of Inspiration Point. The steep fall they experienced measured roughly 115 meters.
Investigators believe the couple ignored a safety fence and climbed past it. With snow covering the path, the risk of slipping was greatly increased.
The Garfield County Sheriff's Office stated that although safety measures were in place, the treacherous conditions and the couple’s decision led to a tragic outcome.
Miraculously, the couple’s tabby cat survived. She was discovered in a torn, filthy carrier near the bodies, frightened but alive.
Named Mirage by rescuers, the cat endured injuries but maintained a friendly attitude. X-rays showed cracked ribs and broken teeth.
The shelter is now focused on her rehabilitation and is contacting the couple’s extended family. If no one claims her, Mirage will stay at the sanctuary permanently.
