Arsenal’s Season on the Brink After Shock Bournemouth Blow
Arsenal suffered a major blow to their momentum with a surprise 2-1 home loss to Bournemouth, just before their crucial Champions League clash with PSG.
The Gunners were hoping for a morale-boosting win before traveling to Paris but instead suffered their first home defeat to the Cherries, shaking their confidence at a critical time.
With their Premier League hopes fading, Arsenal's focus is now solely on Europe. They must come from behind in the second leg against PSG, a task that looks harder after Saturday’s disappointment.
Manager Mikel Arteta believes the emotions from the loss can still be turned into fuel. “It didn’t give us momentum,” he said. “It gave us frustration — let’s use that.”
Arsenal controlled much of the match early on but were undone by poor set-piece defending. Bournemouth equalised from a long throw and then won it from a flicked-on corner.
Set-pieces have plagued Arsenal all season — 38.7% of goals conceded have come that way, the worst in the Premier League.
On top of that, Arsenal’s tendency to blow leads has cost them dearly. They’ve dropped 21 points from winning positions this season, equaling their poorest campaign in that area.
Worryingly, the Gunners failed to respond after going behind in the 75th minute, managing zero shots thereafter. With PSG scoring at will at home, Arsenal must dig deep to keep their season alive.
