Russell Brand Denies Sexual Assault Charges in London Courtroom

Russell Brand, the British comedian and actor, pleaded not guilty on Friday to five charges, including rape and sexual assault, at Southwark Crown Court. The charges involve four women and are alleged to have occurred between 1999 and 2005. Brand has denied all allegations.

In court, Brand wore a dark suit with an unbuttoned pinstripe shirt. He confirmed his name and entered pleas of not guilty to all charges. The trial is scheduled for June 3, 2026. The charges emerged after a joint investigation by three British media outlets.

The Metropolitan Police stated the allegations include a 1999 rape in Bournemouth, a 2001 indecent assault in Westminster, oral rape and sexual assault in 2004, and sexual assault between 2004 and 2005 in Westminster. The incidents occurred over several years.

Brand’s career spans film, comedy, and broadcasting. He has appeared in Hollywood movies and hosted shows in the UK. Lately, he has gained attention on YouTube as a social commentator, discussing conspiracy theories to nearly 6.8 million subscribers.

The investigation began after a joint media report by The Sunday Times, The Times, and Channel 4’s “Dispatches.” Police detectives launched an inquiry into the claims in late 2023, following these revelations.

This court hearing is the start of a lengthy trial process. Brand continues to deny the allegations and is preparing to defend himself in court next year when the trial commences.
